Sorare 101: How to Get Started With Sorare NFTs
Sorare taps into the world of fantasy sports leagues and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to create a blockchain-based game.
The Sorare NFT collection features more than 280 soccer (football for those of you not in the U.S.) leagues and all 30 Major League Baseball teams. You’ll find baseball and soccer superstars, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. These NFTs are also available on the OpenSea marketplace.

You can think of Sorare as essentially a fantasy sports card game that allows you to win prizes that you can exchange for money. As with any trading card game, the rarer the card, the higher the price. Continually participating in the game can reward you with better cards you can sell or use for more challenging tournaments.
How do Sorare NFTs compare to other NFTs?
Sorare focuses on both soccer and baseball fans, providing play-to-earn mechanics with unique athlete cards. Each card holds helpful stats depending on the match’s situation. However, unlike some other NFT card games like Gods Unchained, Sorare does not need you to mix and “breed” two cards to make a new card. What you see is what you get, and what you find on the platform are hundreds of cards to put on your roster.
The value of each card depends on the overall stats and scarcity. Moreover, there is no “official” price for every card.
How does Sorare work?
There are two categories: soccer and baseball. With the soccer option, you will need to gather five cards in your lineup. In baseball, you must gather six cards.

Upon completion of the registration process, you will be guided through a simple onboarding session with the goal of creating your team. If you were to choose soccer as your sport, some of the tasks you will need to complete during the onboarding session include the following:
1. Creating your club details such as your nickname and club name.
2. Choosing your favorite soccer teams from various leagues. If you are a fan of multiple teams, you can select more than one.
3. Receiving your first set of cards of soccer players.
While creating your team like a general manager, you need to pay attention to a few details of your players.
Playing time — You want players who get frequent on-field playing time, as you won’t earn points from players who are sitting on the bench a lot or are currently injured.
Average score — You also want players with a good average score, as shown below. This is visible on each player’s profile.
It is also worth noting that earlier in the onboarding process you were given free soccer players cards that only allow you to play in the Rookie league. However, in order to participate in the other competitions, you must obtain five rare cards for soccer or six for baseball that can be earned in games or purchased with ETH rewards.
Value assessment of cards
Apart from the Common tier, Sorare has four card scarcity tiers which include: Limited, Rare, Super Rare and Unique. The image below shows the card circulation number for each of the tiers.
Additionally, you can notice that each tier has a specific color. For instance, a Rare card will always be red.

You can also focus on card details to assess each individual card apart from its tier. There are three pieces of information to focus on: average score, bonus and league. The most important criterion to determine its value is the average score, which determines scoring performance during the past five games. You can get the player’s average score as shown below in the red box.
It is also essential to know that card scarcity is a major factor that determines which competitions you can participate in.
Is Sorare worth your time?
If you like soccer or baseball, Sorare is a fun time with over 17,000 active players as of this writing. If fantasy leagues are what intrigue you, then Sorare is worth playing — especially since you can earn money by competing with other players. The competitive spirit lives through the players as you battle it out in high-stakes matches, simulating the immersion as a team coach.
With enough traction, the game may hit the big time because soccer and baseball have strong and active fan bases, especially when merchandise is involved.
Sorare FAQsDoes Sorare have a native token?
SOR tokens make up the native cryptocurrency of the game. It is an ERC-20 token, making it simple for ETH transfers and a lucrative form of play-to-earn gaming.
