FC Barcelona Club’s NFT Art Sells For $693,000 at Sotheby’s

  • The auctioneer’s fees added to the sum made the final selling price $693,000.
  • The Club worked with BCN Visuals, a key innovation partner, and Digital Superstudio.

The FC Barcelona Club’s first-ever NFT art sale took place at Sotheby’s in New York, where it sold for $693,000. The auction ended at $550,000, but Sotheby’s Premium, the auctioneer’s fees added to the sum made the final selling price $693,000.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Reina and famed Dutch player Johan Cruyff faced off on December 22, 1973, when Cruyff “flew” into the air to score a crucial goal. Additionally, the customer has acquired four additional NFTs that have static images of the animated version that capture an important moment of the legendary goal in each one.

VIP Privileges and Experiences

The sale of the digital art piece ‘In a Way, Immortal,’ which was inspired by a remark from Johan Cruyff, concluded on July 29 at Sotheby’s, the world’s foremost destination for art, luxury, and collectibles. The auction started online on July 21. More than 30 investors expressed an interest in purchasing the NFT, and the last minutes of the auction were fraught with tension.

For the first time ever, the Club worked with BCN Visuals, a key innovation partner, and Digital Superstudio to create an NFT with a cinematic look. The World of Johan Cruyff helped make the concept a reality.

There are several VIP privileges and experiences that can be enjoyed by NFT owners along with becoming Barça’s Digital Ambassador. Along with the NFT, the buyer will receive a slew of “money-can’t-buy” benefits and privileges. Meet & Greets, trips to La Masia, hospitality rights (for a minimum of five years), the right to play at the Spotify Camp Nou, and an official ball handover before a friendly match will be included in the NFT’s smart contract.
