Crypto.com Is Officially the First Virtual Asset Platform to Achieve ISO 27017 and ISO27018 Certifications

Key highlights:

  • The Crypto.com cryptocurrency exchange has achieved the ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 certifications
  • ISO 27017 provides guidelines for information security controls pertaining cloud services
  • ISO 27018, on the other hand, is recognized as the first international standard for cloud privacy

Crypto.com, the leading crypto asset exchange, has announced that it has been certified with ISO 27017 and ISO 27018. This comes after the platform was audited by SGS, a renowned international certification authority. The announcement means that Crypto.com has become the first in the sector to achieve these certifications.

Recognized as an industry leader with over 80 million customers worldwide, Crypto.com is committed to users’ security. The recent certifications reiterate the company’s commitment to ensuring that users’ personal data is processed securely and cloud service security is optimized.

Double Certification for Improved Security and Privacy

ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 are new, relevant certifications that add a significant layer of security.

A cloud-specific security standard, ISO 27017 provides guidelines for information security controls pertaining to the use and provision of cloud services. It distinguishes organizations that provide a safe and secure cloud-based environment for users. It also ensures that organizations comply with information security management system (ISMS) certification.

ISO 27018, on the other hand, is recognized as the first international standard for cloud privacy. It is a breakthrough certification that provides privacy-specific guidelines for organizations that handle/process clients’ data in public clouds. Its guidelines access risks, establish objectives and implement security controls for protecting PII (personally identifiable information) in clouds.

Speaking about the recent certifications, Chief Information Security Officer at Crypto.com, Jason Lau, said:

“Security and privacy continue to be a core focus for us, particularly as we scale our services globally through the use of cloud infrastructure. These most recent certifications are a testament to our industry leadership and continued commitment.”

Leading by Example

Founded in 2016, Crypto.com continues to lead the way in the digital asset sector. It is a reference point for regulatory compliance, security and privacy. Prior to its latest achievement, it was the first virtual asset platform to achieve ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) back in 2019 and 1SO 27701 (Privacy Information Management System) in 2020.

Crypto.com also achieved ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Management) in 2021. It is also worthy of note that the platform conforms to the NIST Cybersecurity and Privacy Frameworks.

Speaking about its commitments, Crypto.com CEO, Kris Marszalek, said:

“Security and privacy are foundational pillars of our commitment to our 80 million users around the world. We will continue to invest in ensuring the highest standards for safety, security and privacy.”

Crypto.com is obviously not resting on its laurels. The platform and the team behind it are committed to excellence. Its implementation of its ISMS (Information Security Management System), PIMS (Privacy Information Management System) and BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) are audited at least once every year to ensure compliance with the various ISO standards. The annual audits are ideally performed by third-party certification bodies.
