Bedrock is an upcoming major upgrade of the network that aims to provide unprecedented modularity, simplicity, and Ethereum parity to the L2 network, with a positive impact on performance and security.

This is the codebase that will help Optimism stand the test of time and also prepare it for a multi-chain future. It is also the foundation that made Optimism the first truly Decentralized EVM Compilation.

For a compilation to be truly secure and decentralized, it needs to have a proof-of-concept (error proof or sometimes “fraud-proof”) mechanism that can be updated without long delays, without delay no need for any kind of upgrade key.

The voting link is a proposal to upgrade Bedrock version V2. The standard upgrade procedure is to first do a hard fork of Regolith on Optimism Goerli. Once the test is fixed, conduct a 2-week trial on the test network.

Only after reaching the network stability benchmark test will the Optimism Foundation announce the upgrade date at least three weeks after the release date. Upgrades will be activated at specific times, not block height.
