Litecoin Core – The new Upgradation

The main emphasis in the update is security. This release contains codes that strengthen the nodes and heighten network security. Due to this, it is imperative for every wallet user and node operator. The update limits and securely manages memory usage during high network traffic scenarios.

Also, it helps when connected to snail pace peers. Intelligently protecting nodes at the lower-end hardware prevents them from running out of memory when they encounter increased network activity.

Interesting RPC API changes

Major changes in this arena include an added “addconnection” option to be used by functional tests. Also, the “getpeerinfo” helps provide two new fields for every peer, greatly expanding its possibilities. The “addr_processed” and “addr_rate_limited” both facilitate tracking of address messages while processing.

How to update to Litecoin Core v0.21.22

Users are requested to download the binaries from assigned pages and folders to enjoy the benefits of the new release. The use of GPG is suggested for verification of the authenticity and integrity of released binaries. This step ensures that the downloaded binaries are real and untampered.

For the users of Linux, Win32 Cygwin and MacOS, the command line GPG instructions are also provided. The binaries are GPG signed to ensure their integrity and authenticity. Users can verify them using Gitian. Further instructions on building these are also provided. The key identifier signed for these binaries is 0x3620e9d387e55666 (davidburkett38’s key).

A fair warning

Although the version is claimed to be extensively tested, the possibilities are that it might have some bugs. Hence people are requested to back up their wallet.dat file before upgrading. Users are also requested to inform about issues in the bug reporting section. Developers will assist with any issue, and needful things will be done.

About the previous version – Litecoin Core v0.21.21

Released in June 2022, the previous version solved the issue of MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB) key generation for older wallets, which were upgraded. The keys generated were from appropriate keypools; accidental coins sent to previously generated stealth addresses were also recoverable. Users were requested to use “rescanblockchain” post-upgrading to facilitate the recovery of missing MWEB coins.
